Soulful folk and roots-rock singer/songwriter with resonant lyrics and silver cowboy boots.

Lauren Lapointe is a Savannah GA-based singer/songwriter who has been gaining recognition across the country for her soulful songs, unique voice, and strong live performances. Her new CD "Superhero" was released in May 2013 and was produced by Thomm Jutz (Nanci Griffith, Mary Gauthier, Steve Young) in Nashville. It features twelve original Americana, roots-rock, pop, and old country songs supported by world-class musicians.

“Superhero” showcases strong songwriting and is filled with catchy hooks, infectious melodies, and poignant lyrics. Warm, quirky, intimate, vulnerable yet strong, empowering, creative, with a hint of magic and ghosts, Lapointe is never afraid to mix up styles and share the diversity of the music she loves.

The title track “Superhero” is a fun, upbeat, and empowering song about discovering our hidden superpowers. “This was the perfect title for the CD,” says Lapointe, “since many of these songs were written from a place of discovery of my own strength as a songwriter, singer, musician, and person.”

Since the 2007 release of her CD “Butterfly,” Lapointe developed an interest in country music. Old country music, to be specific. “I found a 1971 Gibson Hummingbird guitar in a vintage music store that was in near-perfect condition,” says Lapointe. “It quickly became my songwriting guitar and I was surprised to hear these old country songs emerge from it...similar to something you would hear at the Grand Ole Opry. I have this theory that these songs had been trapped in the guitar and I was simply setting them free.” This guitar unleashed songs such as “Sit Home and Cry,” “Dusty Tired Angel,” and “Rattlesnake Mountain Road” the latter two co-written with fellow Savannah songwriter Taylor Martin. A favorite pair of silver cowboy boots inspired the song of the same name.

A trip to Scotland resulted in the haunting “Scotland Tonight” and has quickly become one of Lapointe’s most requested songs at her live shows. The recording features Justin Moses, who is Ricky Skaggs’ regular banjo player, on fiddle and dobro. Moses also plays banjo on “When The Wind Blows,” a song that would be at home in any bluegrass setting, and “The Ghost of Elvis” a rocking tribute to one of Lapointe’s heroes.

Other stellar musicians on the CD include Mark Fain on bass (Alan Jackson, Ricky Skaggs,) Lynn Williams on drums and percussion (Delbert McClinton, Lee Roy Parnell,) Gary Smith on piano, wurlitzer, and organ (John Anderson,) Terry Crisp on pedal steel (Reba McEntire, Joe Diffie,) and Britt Savage on harmony vocals.

The CD unfolds like a story and reveals Lapointe’s diversity as a songwriter and singer as she weaves many styles and stories. Thomm Jutz’s production and signature guitar support and enhance this journey and culminate with the breathtaking finale “If All The Flowers Were The Same,” an acoustic song about embracing diversity that features Lapointe’s vocals and Jutz’s guitar and reflects the quiet intimacy that Lapointe conjures forth at her live shows.

One of Lapointe’s strengths is her ability to be open and vulnerable in her songs. “To show ourselves as vulnerable is one of the strongest and most honest things we can do,” says Lapointe. “It’s incredibly empowering and it’s one of the goals that I am constantly striving towards as a songwriter. The more authentic I can be in my songs, the more these songs will connect with the world and give others permission to feel and experience the same things. Only then can we truly live within our hearts and genuinely be ourselves.”

In addition to “Superhero,” Lapointe released “Butterfly” in 2007. Produced by Tom Prasada-Rao in Texas, “Butterfly” was played on more than 100 radio stations in eight countries reaching #8 on the Georgia Roots Artist Radio Airplay Chart. Her 2005 release "Beautiful Shadow" was featured on Georgia Public Radio and launched Lapointe as a nationally touring singer/songwriter.

Lapointe continues to make a name for herself as a strong and versatile live performer and has played at many renowned listening rooms across the nation such as the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, the Rockwood Music Hall in NYC, the Jefferson Freedom Cafe in Ft. Worth TX, and Anderson Fair in Houston TX.

Savannah GA-based singer/songwriter Lauren Lapointe has been gaining recognition across the country for her soulful songs, unique voice, and strong live performances. Her new release “Butterfly,” was produced by award-winning Tom Prasada-Rao and reached #8 on the Georgia Roots Artist Radio Airplay Chart and #13 on the Roots Music Report Folk Charts in Dec. 2007. This CD features 14 tracks of melodic folk-rock that showcase Lapointe’s versatility as a songwriter and vocalist. Her songs include themes such as self-empowerment, following your dreams, as well as story songs inspired by living in the South and growing up in Canada. Lapointe’s influences include Canadian songwriters Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan, and Loreena McKennitt as well as Southern storytellers Bobbie Gentry, Lucinda Williams, and Gillian Welch.

Her song, “Ballerina Girl" has been published in a national songbook of positive, inspiring music. It is based on a true story about a woman who, after working for 40 years as an accountant, decided to pursue her lifelong dream to become a ballerina. “The response to this song has been amazing,” says Lapointe. “There are so many people who think that it’s too late to follow their dream. I felt the same way about starting a music career later than most.”

In the spring of 2001, Lapointe was working at her desk job and secretly imagining a life as a singer/songwriter. One Monday morning, however, she decided that life was too short not to pursue her dream. To the surprise of everyone around her, she gave her notice that day and never looked back. Within a year, she was playing full-time at many prominent venues in the Savannah area. She was invited to open for several national touring acts and was a featured performer at the Savannah Folk Music Society’s monthly coffeehouse series.

Her 2005 release “Beautiful Shadow” was featured on Georgia Public Radio and aired on 15 stations across the state. The Savannah Morning News described it as “impressive…emphasizing strong songwriting and showcasing Lapointe’s rich alto voice.” The CD was well-received by venues and fans across the country and Lapointe began touring on a full-time basis. She made her debut at the renowned Bluebird Cafe in Nashville in 2006 and performed at such prestigious venues as the Rockwood Music Hall in NYC, the Jefferson Freedom Cafe in Ft. Worth TX, Anderson Fair in Houston TX, and The Burren Pub in Boston.

In the meantime, Lapointe was continuing to write songs inspired by the people and stories she encountered in her travels. Before long it was time to record again. “I wanted to create a CD that really meant a lot to me personally,” Lapointe says. “I know this seems like a simple thing, but I think it’s easy in the music business to get swayed by what we think other people want. My rule of thumb was that I had to love every aspect of it – every word, every note, every instrument.”

The first step was finding a producer who shared her vision. She met Tom Prasada-Rao at SummerSongs, the songwriting camp that she attends every year in the Catskills. He’s won numerous awards and been described as “one of the most outstanding musicians I have ever met” by Ed King of Lynyrd Skynyrd. “I flew to Texas for a week to begin work on the CD,” explains Lapointe. “We thought we would get the bare bones started but it came together really quickly. We ended up completing most of the CD during that time. It was a truly magical experience!”

With a national radio campaign in the works and an extensive touring schedule in her future, Lapointe is excited about what lies ahead. “I’m just taking it one day at a time,” she says. “I plan on enjoying every moment!”

“Here’s a Canada-Savannah transplant who carved out a standing in our country’s corporate catacombs, then pitched it all over for a full-scale fling at singing and songwriting. Good move? She’s virtually commanded the acoustic scene in coastal Georgia, opened for several national acts, and knocked out a critically-acclaimed first CD that landed her a feature on the state’s public radio network.”—Keith Harrelson, Moonlight Music Café, Birmingham AL.

“If you see her once, you're sure to come back again and again.”— Sheri's Caffe del Giorno, Greenville SC.

“If you have a dream that you think is out of reach, I urge you to listen to Lauren Lapointe's song "Ballerina Girl" from her new CD “Butterfly.” This song is based on a true story and Lauren has done an exceptional job of crafting a haunting, enchanting piece to share with the world. I was so inspired the first time I heard it and even more so the second time. Be sure to listen to Lauren, and let her words inspire you so that you can someday realize the satisfaction that comes from becoming the person you always desired to be.” —Martha Ann Brooks, singer/songwriter

"A mellow pop-folk vibe shaped by acoustic strumming, thoughtful lyrics, and Lapointe's subtly seductive alto voice. Produced by Kyle Shiver, who also adds tasteful accompaniment with his guitar, mandolin and vocal harmonies, eight of 10 tracks on "Shadow" are Lapointe originals. On their own, any one of the eight original songs stands the test of a well-crafted composition. Growing up in Eastern Canada, Lauren and her family moved around quite a bit, earning the nickname the "traveling Lapointes." This spirit of wanderlust continued into her adult years. She lived in Quebec City and Montreal, two of Canada's French-speaking cities, so that she could immerse herself in another language and culture. She backpacked throughout Europe, drove across the U.S. in her red Chevy named "Cherry" and eventually settled in Savannah, Georgia.

With a business degree under her belt and many navy-blue suits to her name, she worked for several years at her desk job. She eventually earned the coveted corner office. But she knew that something was missing. One Monday morning, she decided that life was too short not to follow her dream. To the great surprise of everyone around her, she gave her notice that very day. Her reason? She wanted to sing. "But...you don't sing...!" was the stunned reply.

She enrolled in sound design classes at the Savannah College of Art and Design and was coaxed by her fellow students and professors into recording some of her songs. This led to her first self-titled CD and within a year she was playing full-time at many bars, restaurants, and coffeehouses in the Savannah area. She has been a featured performer of the Savannah Folk Music Society and has opened for such national touring acts as Mindy Simmons, David Berkeley, Sam Shaber, Lauren Echo, Kyle Shiver, Mieka Pauley and Martha's Trouble.

Before long, however, it was time to record a new CD. This time Lauren decided to work with producer Kyle Shiver, an acclaimed singer/songwriter who had made his major label debut as a background vocalist on Shawn Mullin's "Beneath the Velvet Sun."

Her latest release, titled "Beautiful Shadow" is a collection of 10 tracks that include "Gypsy," an upbeat song that captures the dreaminess and romance of the free-spirited traveler. The title track "Beautiful Shadow" celebrates the quiet people and simple moments in life. A moving acapella version of the traditional "Farewell to Nova Scotia" shows Lauren paying tribute to her Canadian roots.

The Savannah Morning News has described "Beautiful Shadow" as "impressive...emphasizing strong songwriting and showcasing Lapointe's rich alto voice." An interview with Lauren was recently featured on Georgia Public Radio's "Georgia Gazette," which airs on 15 public radio stations throughout the state. The show also included excerpts from "Beautiful Shadow." This year, Lauren, who has "taken over the local acoustic scene," according to a Savannah newspaper, plans to tour the country.

Lauren's engaging live performances highlight her strong yet sensitive voice, wide vocal range, and warm and light-hearted stage presence. She writes all of her soul-stirring songs, which are based on her experiences and those of the people around her and strike a universal chord with many of her listeners. She's finally found a voice for her gypsy nature and uncommon insight through her unique and sultry songs.
