Lauren Lapointe is a Savannah GA-based singer/songwriter who has been gaining recognition across the country for her soulful songs, unique voice, and strong live performances. Her new CD "Superhero" was released in May 2013 and was produced by Thomm Jutz (Nanci Griffith, Mary Gauthier, Steve Young) in Nashville. It features twelve original Americana, roots-rock, pop, and old country songs supported by world-class musicians.

“Superhero” showcases strong songwriting and is filled with catchy hooks, infectious melodies, and poignant lyrics. Warm, quirky, intimate, vulnerable yet strong, empowering, creative, with a hint of magic and ghosts, Lapointe is never afraid to mix up styles and share the diversity of the music she loves.

The title track “Superhero” is a fun, upbeat, and empowering song about discovering our hidden superpowers. “This was the perfect title for the CD,” says Lapointe, “since many of these songs were written from a place of discovery of my own strength as a songwriter, singer, musician, and person.”

Since the 2007 release of her CD “Butterfly,” Lapointe developed an interest in country music. Old country music, to be specific. “I found a 1971 Gibson Hummingbird guitar in a vintage music store that was in near-perfect condition,” says Lapointe. “It quickly became my songwriting guitar and I was surprised to hear these old country songs emerge from it...similar to something you would hear at the Grand Ole Opry. I have this theory that these songs had been trapped in the guitar and I was simply setting them free.” This guitar unleashed songs such as “Sit Home and Cry,” “Dusty Tired Angel,” and “Rattlesnake Mountain Road” the latter two co-written with fellow Savannah songwriter Taylor Martin. A favorite pair of silver cowboy boots inspired the song of the same name.

A trip to Scotland resulted in the haunting “Scotland Tonight” and has quickly become one of Lapointe’s most requested songs at her live shows. The recording features Justin Moses, who is Ricky Skaggs’ regular banjo player, on fiddle and dobro. Moses also plays banjo on “When The Wind Blows,” a song that would be at home in any bluegrass setting, and “The Ghost of Elvis” a rocking tribute to one of Lapointe’s heroes.

Other stellar musicians on the CD include Mark Fain on bass (Alan Jackson, Ricky Skaggs,) Lynn Williams on drums and percussion (Delbert McClinton, Lee Roy Parnell,) Gary Smith on piano, wurlitzer, and organ (John Anderson,) Terry Crisp on pedal steel (Reba McEntire, Joe Diffie,) and Britt Savage on harmony vocals.

The CD unfolds like a story and reveals Lapointe’s diversity as a songwriter and singer as she weaves many styles and stories. Thomm Jutz’s production and signature guitar support and enhance this journey and culminate with the breathtaking finale “If All The Flowers Were The Same,” an acoustic song about embracing diversity that features Lapointe’s vocals and Jutz’s guitar and reflects the quiet intimacy that Lapointe conjures forth at her live shows.

One of Lapointe’s strengths is her ability to be open and vulnerable in her songs. “To show ourselves as vulnerable is one of the strongest and most honest things we can do,” says Lapointe. “It’s incredibly empowering and it’s one of the goals that I am constantly striving towards as a songwriter. The more authentic I can be in my songs, the more these songs will connect with the world and give others permission to feel and experience the same things. Only then can we truly live within our hearts and genuinely be ourselves.”

In addition to “Superhero,” Lapointe released “Butterfly” in 2007. Produced by Tom Prasada-Rao in Texas, “Butterfly” was played on more than 100 radio stations in eight countries reaching #8 on the Georgia Roots Artist Radio Airplay Chart. Her 2005 release "Beautiful Shadow" was featured on Georgia Public Radio and launched Lapointe as a nationally touring singer/songwriter.

Lapointe continues to make a name for herself as a strong and versatile live performer and has played at many renowned listening rooms across the nation such as the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, the Rockwood Music Hall in NYC, the Jefferson Freedom Cafe in Ft. Worth TX, and Anderson Fair in Houston TX.
